More than 2,000 Fraud Fighters to Gather this Week in Las Vegas

The ACFE is hosting its 20th Annual Fraud Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas, where more than 2,000 attendees will hear keynote speakers including Madoff whistleblower Harry Markopolos, CFE, CFA and second U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff at the largest gathering of anti-fraud professionals in the world.

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) is hosting its 20th Annual Fraud Conference & Exhibition, July 12-17, 2009 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, where more than 2,000 attendees will hear keynote speakers including Madoff whistleblower Harry Markopolos, CFE, CFA and second U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff at the largest gathering of anti-fraud professionals in the world. 

The ACFE Fraud Conference also features a schedule packed with cutting-edge training seminars addressing issues such as fighting fraud in an economic downturn, detecting and preventing Ponzi schemes, current trends in financial institution, mortgage and healthcare fraud, and many others. 

Other keynote speakers include James H. Freis, Director of the Financial Crimes Network (FinCEN), and Robert Rudloff, Jr., CFE, CIA, Vice President of Internal Audit for MGM Mirage, who will provide their unique perspectives on fraud. Aaron Beam, convicted of fraud for his role in the HealthSouth scandal, will also tell his story. Beam co-founded HealthSouth with Richard Scrushy and served as its chief financial officer until 1997. 

The Fraud Conference offers more than 80 educational sessions for anti-fraud professionals, and a traveling Fraud Museum exhibit, “Fraud Triangle: the Mind of a Fraudster,” will provide the unique opportunity to travel through fraud’s dynamic history in the most extensive and eclectic collection of historical fraud pieces in the world. 

The conference will be held at Bellagio, where Certified Fraud Examiners (CFEs), investigators, auditors, CPAs, attorneys, law enforcement officers and other professionals – whose duties include safeguarding their company or their clients from fraud – will be in attendance to share knowledge and increase their fraud-fighting skills.
